You may not be aware that at Age 73 the IRS requires IRA owners to take a Required Minimum Distribution (RMD). Traditional IRAs will be taxed as ordinary income. For wealthier retirees that could be at 30-40% if state income taxes are included.  If you don’t need the excess income, why take the RMD and pay tax on it when you could donate some or all of each distribution to Heartfelt Haywood tax-free? By donating your RMD to Heartfelt Haywood, 100% of your money will be used to support programs for adults and children who are grieving, caregivers, and direct care for our most vulnerable neighbors at the end-of-life. 

Beginning at age 70 ½, tax-beneficial donations to charities can be made by IRA owners. At age 73, an IRA owner incurs a tax penalty if they do not take a distribution of a certain amount (the RMD), which varies based on age and the amount of the IRA funds (both traditional and Roth).

What information do I need to provide to my fund manager?

Heartfelt Haywood, as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, is eligible to receive charitable donations from your RMD. Ask your Fund Manager to make checks payable to Haywood End-of-Life Coalition (d.b.a. Heartfelt Haywood) and mail to:
